What is the origin of Santa Claus? A man named Saint Nicholas, or Saint Nicholas of Myra, was born in Asia Minor in the year 270. He was a devout Christian who lived in a time when Christians were persecuted. Saint Nicholas is known for his generous gifts to the poor and to children. Every December, children around the world eagerly await the arrival of Santa Claus. But who is Santa Claus? Saint Nicholas, known as the "Patron Saint of Children," was born in Patara, Lycia, in 270 AD. His wealthy parents died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young.
